They have done this since independence. They will keep on doing this destroying the economical development and the democratic principles (which is already destroyed). This is why the Tamils want to seperate, because we want to be free of these corrupt politicians. As a unitary state we do not have the vote bank to get rid of them as all of them ride the Sinhalese extremisim to get the vote from the Sinhalese who are blinded by myths preached by thier monks.

Why all these nonesense?

I am a Muslim but I am proud to be called a Sri Lankan. I dont care about Symbols of Flag. We Sri Lankan(Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslims) should live peacefully and settle their difference amicably. My best friends are Sinhalese, Tamil, Burghers and Malay.Do not get trap to few Sinhalese Politician noose because Politician are the trouble makers not only in Sri Lanka in whole world.
These politician are trying to destroy the country by making division among various ethinic group.

The muslims of north east see an attempt by the sinhalese government to divide the peacful co excistence between the tamils and sinhalese. We muslims must not fall into the sinhalese trap, who will do the same to us as they have done to the tamils. The sinhala government wants to colonize the muslim land with sinhala settlers.

Sinhalese are the ones who are fighting this whole war thinking that they are protecting Buddhism. You are right; religion should not be given any rights and should be kept away from the state process. If the Buddhist nationalist don’t get out of parliament then those who embrace Buddhism should be asked to leave the country or any other religion that is trying to incorporate into state. All language should be given equal rights and no language should be claimed official and use English for all state matters.

If the Sinhalese are the majority they should not be even worried about making their language official. Every one should learn English as a common language and their respective language should be privately developed and the state should have absolutely nothing to do with private development of language. Serious imprisonment should be awarded to individuals or institute who promote religion, caste, racism and sexism.

Such measure will surely keep Sri Lanka united for many years and will be a hell turned into an oasis.

Name one country in the world that will allow special interest groups or pockets of people with some common trait such as releigion to start carving out parts of the country.

The Kurds in Turkey ?
The Kashmere/Muslims in India ?
Chechens in Russia ?

All Sri Lankans must unite to stop these power hungry war lords from trying to break up this magnificent nation.

From time to time certain jokers start so many different NGOs for their own petty needs. It is obvious who is behind this so called “The coalition of Muslims and Tamils” As we can see the LTTE goons must be behind this to create a split between Sinhalese & Muslims.
Muslims are far better off with Sinhalese than with Tamils. That bond is running for centuries. Muslims in Sri Lanka were proud of the Lion flag with their share of green band.

If you really want to travel back in history then you have to realise one thing. Buddhism reached Sri Lanka after the Kalinga War when Emperor Ashoka converted to Buddhism and send his emissaries all over South Asia for propogation of the religion. This is recorded history.

It is a fact that Indians have migrated to various countries all over the globe, forcibly or otherwise. The Indians in Central America, South Pacific and Mauritius have become natives of those places with practically no links to their roots. Unlike these places around the globe, the Sri Lankan Tamils are not Indians. They are Sri Lankans. Certainly a sizeable percentage of Tamils in Sri Lanka are of Indian orign. But not all of them.

If you are looking at geological history we are all Africans. India broke away from Gondwanaland and move at a geologically fast speed of 2 cm/yr and merged with Asia-this created Himalays which was a coastline before that. Sri Lanka broke off from the Kerala part of India, moved off and rotated by around 200 degrees to become today’s island. Can I, a Keralite, claim to be a Sri Lankan or an African becuase of this phenamenon which happened ages back. Worse still the part of Kerala where I was born was never part of British India but a protectorate. My eldest brother was born in Travancore, not British India. Does it make me any less an Indian than my brother? My other siblings were born in the state of Travamcore-Cochin because the state of Kerala was formed later. Are they all any less Keralites than me?

All this talk about past is only counter productive. If you belong to a certain country, the first thing you should try to do is to live peacefully with your neighbour. Trying to correct some percived mistake in the past by committing more mistakes now is, to put it mildly, foolish.

Wherever the Brits have gone, they ensured that the place will become a mess after they left. The only lucky exception is Malayasia. But that does not mean that the inherited problem(s) should not be addressed and solved. We were all really foolish at that time to allow some westerner occupy our land, exploit and colonise. Most of such conutries attained independence between 1947 and 1960. Almost all of them subscribed to the NAM ideology. And most of them are on the path of progress.

The past is dead. The present is a reality. But the future is in your hands. Why not share friendship instead of hatred?

Jaffna Kingdown was the first to fall but who invited the Europeans? It was the Sinhalese. Jaffna was the land of pure Tamils, maybe they had some Sinhalese traders, but it was never dominated or never will be dominated by the Sinhalese. Over 1000 Sinhalese place name? Yeah they also borrowed all the Tamil words to make the Sinhalese language, in that case of course you can claim that there are more then 1000 names in Jaffna that are Sinhalese. The courts of the Sinhalese Kingdoms used Tamil as the official language not Sinhalese (because the language was not developed enough). People like you are the ones who believe that Buddha flew on a cloud and that he offered Lanka to the Sinhalese. Wake up to the reality.
